The ministry has reviewed and considered the policy. The ministry undertakes a wide range of activities designed to raise the profile of the importance of Lake Ontario (and all Great Lakes) as a source of drinking water through the Lake Ontario Partnership Working Group under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and the Canada-Ontario Agreement on Great Lakes Water Quality and Ecosystem Health. The ministry collaborates with a variety of partners (conservation authorities, Environment and Climate Change Canada, United States government agencies, provincial ministries, municipalities, Indigenous, First Nations, Métis) on protecting our shared drinking water sources including making available vulnerable area mapping through the Source Protection Information Atlas.
Policy Text:
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is requested to reach out to the Ontario Region of Environment and Climate Change Canada to share information about water resources obtained through the source protection planning process. This sharing of information could result in an update to the document "Environmental Sensitivity Atlas for Lake Ontario's Canadian Shoreline" to include maps of the current drinking water infrastructure, as well as the current knowledge and understanding of the conditions of the Canadian shoreline of Lake Ontario.
