The AWSA reviews and updates their standards on a regular basis. The HHSPR and the AWSA have disscused the importance of Source Protection and the AWSA will consider Source Protection during the next review. A Source Protection primer outlining the importance on Source Protection was created by the HHSPR and has been distributed to AWSA facility owners, operators and inspectors.
Policy Text:
Where the future handling and storage of pesticide would be a significant drinking water threat,
a. the Agrichemical Warehousing Standards Association is requested to review their standards to ensure they include appropriate buffer areas and emergency planning and response measures to protect municipal drinking water sources.
Monitoring Text:
b. the Halton Region and Hamilton Region Conservation Authorities shall request the Agrichemical Warehousing Standards Association annually to confirm that their standards protect municipal drinking water sources.
