Since May 2015, the Ministry has been screening environmental compliance approval (ECA) applications to determine if the activity is located in an area where the activity could be a significant drinking water threat. This is called the “primary screening”. Based on a set of criteria, an ECA application is flagged for a more detailed ‘secondary screening’ to determine if the activity associated with the application is a significant drinking water threat.
Policy Text:
The Ministry of the Environment shall MANAGE future sewage system or sewage works- sanitary sewers and related pipes within the Environmental Compliance Approvals process where this activity would be a significant drinking water threat in the Belmont Wellhead Protection Area (WHPA) 'A' by ensuring terms and conditions are imposed that, when implemented, this activity never becomes a significant drinking water threat.
Monitoring Text:
(KCSPA-CW-1.10): Where the Source Protection Plan policies require a provincial ministry to amend a Prescribed Instrument and/or create a new Prescribed Instrument, the
applicable Ministry shall provide a summary of the actions taken including documenting the number and locations where such instruments were reviewed
and/or amended. The applicable ministry shall provide a written report summarizing this information to the Source Protection Authority by February 1st of each year.
