If an approved activity is deemed a significant drinking water threat, the ministry will review the activity and the ECA to determine if changes are needed to meet the intent of the source protection policies. The ministry addresses drinking water threat activities that are regulated by ministry approvals and permits on a consistent province-wide basis.
Policy Text:
To ensure the existing disposal of mine tailings, that is subject to an Environmental Compliance Approval within the meaning of the Environmental Protection Act, ceases to be a significant drinking water threat the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks shall ensure that the Environmental Compliance Approval that governs the disposal of mine tailings includes appropriate terms and conditions to ensure that the activity ceases to be a significant drinking water threat.
Monitoring Text:
(DC-M-CW-1.11): Where the Source Protection Plan policies require a provincial ministry to amend a Prescribed Instrument or the issuance of a new Prescribed Instrument, the applicable Ministry shall provide a summary of the actions taken the previous year to implement the policies and provide a written report summarizing this information to the Source Protection Authority by February 1st of each year.
