Spill response and notification procedures have been updated to geo-spatially determine if the spill is in a source protection vulnerable area. These new procedures ensure that if a spill has the potential to impact a drinking water treatment plant, the plant is notified along with any other affected parties.

Dufferin County Emergency Response Plan includes a SPILL Protocol and the Town will update mapping in their Official Plan as per the updates provided through the Municipal Comprehensive Review of Dufferin County's Official Plan to reflect the SPP (approved Feb 15, 2022) mapping.
Policy Text:
To ensure the protection of drinking water sources with respect to spills that occur within a wellhead protection area along highways, railway lines, or shipping lanes, the Town, County of Dufferin, and the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks are encouraged to incorporate the Wellhead Protection Area mapping into their Emergency Response Plan and Spills Action Centre mapping, respectively.
