The City has a Road Salt Management Plan which was developed in accordance with Environment Canada’s Code of Practice for Environmental Management of Road Salts. The City’s original Plan was created in 2005 and was last updated in 2015, with the associated Salt Spreader Calibration Document which is updated annually. The City initiated a full review of the Road Salt Management Plan in 2022/2023. The revised Road Salt Management Plan has consideration for designated vulnerable areas under Clean Water Act, where applicable. A copy of the City’s Road Salt Management Plan can be made available to the Source Protection Authority upon request.

Policy Text:
Within one year of the Source Protection Plan taking effect, upper and lower tier municipalities that apply road salt on roads, sidewalks and municipally owned parking lots in the Highly Vulnerable Aquifer are strongly encouraged to prepare and implement a Road Salt Management Plan in accordance with Environment Canada's Code of Practice for the Environmental Management of Road Salts.

MON-3-NLB Annual Report from the Municipality — Non-legally Binding Policies
By February 1 of each year, the municipality is requested to provide the Source Protection Authority with a summary of implementation activities for the previous calendar year related to non-legally binding policies where the municipality is the implementer.
MON-13-LB Recommendations to Environment Canada
The Source Protection Authority will communicate annually with Environment Canada to obtain an update on progress related to the recommendations outlined in policy WASTE-6-NLB as well as information about the status of the Code of Practice for the Environmental Management of Road Salts and related initiatives.
