As of July 1, 2024, Halton Region is no longer a planning approval authority. Implementation of the Land Use Planning policies of the Source Protection Plans will be the responsibility of the area municipalities.

The Official Plan update process was initiated in 2019 and is in progress. In 2024, the Town held statutory consultations, as required under the Planning, to consult on the draft policies. Following the Official Plan update, the Town zoning by-law will be amended for conformity.
Policy Text:
The Region of Halton and the Town of Milton shall amend their Official Plans to prohibit future salt storage and handling facilities with a capacity greater than 5,000 tonnes of road salt where this activity would be a significant drinking water threat, to ensure these activities never become significant drinking water threats.
Monitoring Text:
HR-CW-1.9: Where the Halton Region and Town of Milton are required to amend their Official Plan and/or Zoning By-laws as a result of policies in this plan, they shall provide notice to the Source Protection Authority within 30 days of the amendment(s) coming into effect.
