Threat verification visits continued in 2024 to identify properties where existing handling and storage of road is a significant drinking water threat. No Significant Drinking Water Threats for existing handing and storage of road salt were found during the inspections in 2024. This is anticipated to change with the anticipated Section 34 updates and adoption of the amended Technical Rules.

Policy Text:

To ensure the existing handling and storage of road salt where such an activity is a significant drinking water threat, ceases to be a significant drinking water threat this activity is designated for the purposes of Section 58 of the Clean Water Act, 2006 and a Risk Management Plan shall be required.

Monitoring Text:

CB-CW-1.8: The Risk Management Official shall provide a report to the Source Protection Authority, by February 1st of each year, summarizing the actions taken by the Risk Management Official to implement the Source Protection Plan policies, in accordance with the Clean Water Act, 2006 and associated regulations.
