In November, 2016 the Grower Pesticide Safety Course Manual that is used to train and certify farmers through the Grower Pesticide Safety Course to buy and use Class 2 or 3 Pesticides on their farms was updated to include information on Source Water Protection.

The ministry has reviewed and considered the policy. Please also refer to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs response to policy PEST(App)-2 for further details. OMAFRA advises that in November, 2016 the Grower Pesticide Safety Course Manual that is used to train and certify farmers through the Grower Pesticide Safety Course to buy and use Class 2 or 3 Pesticides on their farms was updated to include information on Source Water Protection.
Policy Text:
OMAFRA and MOE are encouraged to review and, where appropriate, amend pest management training courses to incorporate additional precautions and considerations to address pesticide application in vulnerable areas where the activity is a significant drinking water threat.
Monitoring Text:
MON-2: By February 1 of each year, the MOE shall report to the local source protection authority on the steps taken in the previous calendar year to implement these significant threat policies, and recommendations, where appropriate.
MON-3: By February 1 of each year, OMAFRA / MTO shall report to the local source protection authority on the steps taken in the previous calendar year to implement these significant threat policies and recommendations, where appropriate.
